Sephiria has six base weapon branches: Sword and Shield, Greatsword, Dagger, Crossbow, Katana, and Quarterstaff, which the game also calls Staff. Sword and Shield is the clearest beginner choice because it offers a direct frontal guard, while no weapon is universally best after upgrades and inventory effects are considered. Unlock later weapons through Destiny Inscription and the quest or training step shown by the current game; exact Sapphire costs are Pending confirmation.
01 Sephiria weapons at a glance
Every weapon changes the actions a player repeats, not just the damage number on an equipment screen. Official material says the six weapon types collectively have more than 50 unique upgrades, so a base weapon is the beginning of a branching route rather than a finished kit. The comparison below describes the verified base actions collected in the page materials and does not pretend to rank every possible upgrade.
| Weapon | Combat identity | Special or defensive action | Main tradeoff | |---|---|---|---| | Sword and Shield | Defensive close melee | Guard into Cleave | Short reach | | Greatsword | Wide, committed melee | Charged Whirlwind | Long commitment | | Dagger | Fast reaction melee | Parry into Fury | Extremely short reach | | Crossbow | Ranged positioning | Enhanced Arrow | Reload windows | | Katana | Stateful burst melee | Sheathe, Unsheathe, Strong Slash | MP and state tracking | | Quarterstaff / Staff | Broad counterplay | Riposte | Timing-dependent safety |
This table is more useful than a fixed Sephiria weapons tier list because it tells you what must be executed during a real room. A safe action that fits your reactions can outperform a theoretically stronger action that you rarely land. Upgrade names, values, costs, and interactions can change between patches, so the live tooltip remains the authority.
02 Sword and Shield is the most forgiving start
Sword and Shield lets the rabbit hold Guard toward the cursor to stop frontal damage, then attack during Guard to use a broad Cleave. That combination gives a new player a readable defensive answer and a way to cover nearby enemies without changing weapons. Its short reach is the cost: poor cursor direction or positioning still leaves the player close to danger.
03 Greatsword rewards space and deliberate commitment
Greatsword uses long, wide normal swings and a charged Whirlwind that covers a broad area when released. It fits players who create an opening before attacking and want one action to reach several grouped enemies. The same commitment becomes a liability when a swing or recovery begins at the wrong moment.
A Sephiria Greatsword upgrade should support the action the run can actually land. If normal swings are doing the reliable work, strengthening a rarely completed charge divides the build; if rooms provide safe Whirlwind windows, special support becomes more sensible. Community materials describe a defensive Creaking Spine route, but that full build depends on later choices and should not be treated as the base weapon’s guaranteed result.
04 Dagger turns exact defense into offense
Dagger attacks quickly at extremely short range and can Parry attacks around the rabbit while briefly preventing damage. A successful defense enables Fury, converting correct timing into a strong punish window. This makes Dagger attractive for practiced reactions and boss openings, but missed timing carries a high cost because the user is already close to the threat.
Decide whether a run is succeeding through normal attack volume or through the Parry-and-Fury loop before selecting upgrades. On-hit and critical effects can fit frequent attacks, while counter-oriented effects need consistent successful Parry triggers. A high ceiling does not make Dagger an automatic top tier for a player who cannot reproduce its timing.
05 Crossbow creates range but still needs room control
Crossbow is the dedicated ranged branch and its regular shots require reload management. Enhanced Arrow does not consume an arrow and can pierce enemies and terrain, which rewards deliberate firing lines. Distance provides more time to read threats, yet walls, reload windows, and poor positioning can interrupt damage.
06 Katana adds stance and MP decisions
Katana uses Sheathe and Unsheathe to change states, with brief protection during the transitions described by the collected guide. While sheathed, Strong Slash covers the area ahead and consumes MP. The branch suits a player who enjoys planned burst and can track both state and resource before committing.
Strengthen the stance and attack you actually maintain rather than collecting every Katana-related trigger. If MP limits Strong Slash, solve that constraint before spending inventory space on more special-dependent effects. Exact protection duration, MP cost, and upgrade values are Pending confirmation for the current client.
07 Quarterstaff combines reach with a timed answer
Quarterstaff, also labeled Staff in the materials, uses Riposte to perform two broad sweeps while creating a guard check during the attack. Its reach and coverage can control space, but the defensive value still depends on meeting an incoming attack at the correct time. It therefore sits between passive safety and reaction-heavy counterplay.
Read each offered upgrade carefully because “Staff” appears both as a weapon-type label and within named later upgrades. Identify whether the choice changes normal attacks, Riposte, a ranged conversion, or an Artifact interaction. Do not assume every Staff build remains a melee sweep build after specialization.
08 A practical Sephiria weapons tier list
For first-run learning, Sword and Shield is the safest recommendation in the collected material, followed by Crossbow for players who prefer distance and Greatsword for players comfortable with attack commitment. Dagger and Katana demand more precise timing or state management, while Quarterstaff rewards timed Riposte use. This is an editorial learning-order tier list, not an official damage ranking or a controlled current-patch test.
09 How to unlock weapons
Sword and Shield is available from the beginning. The collected community route says Greatsword is opened by unlocking its Destiny Inscription node, speaking with Moro, and completing the matching village training; Dagger and Crossbow follow later node-and-training patterns. Official route descriptions also place Katana and Staff behind Destiny Inscription quests, but the precise current objectives must be read in the client.
Do not copy a historical Sapphire total from an old screenshot. Follow the connected tree to the weapon node, purchase what the current text requires, then complete the village objective the game presents. Current Sapphire prices for Greatsword, Dagger, Crossbow, Katana, and Staff are Pending confirmation in the collected evidence.
10 How Sephiria weapon upgrades work
Anvil choices specialize the equipped base weapon during a run, and later choices can continue the direction established by an earlier selection. Keep the base rhythm visible: select upgrades for an attack, special, or defense you can already trigger without forcing it. Then re-check the inventory because Artifact tags and adjacent Tablet support can change the value of the same weapon option.
Patch notes have changed costs, damage behavior, triggers, and Artifact interactions, so saved screenshots are context rather than permanent rules. Record the client version when comparing two routes, and treat the current tooltip as the final source for a number. For permanent access, continue to the Destiny Inscription guide; for complete setups, use the Sephiria builds page.
